Pouilly Fuissé is an important white wine appellation in the Maconnais district of Burgundy, and is completely different from a Pouilly Fumé (which is made from Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire valley). The Chardonnay grape is grown in sun traps beneath the two impressive crags of Solutré and Vergisson; the soil was supposedly enriched by the remains of animals driven from the top of the cliffs by Stone Age hunters. This is a lovely mellow example, matured in oak for 12 months, with rich flavours and good length.

Ce Pouilly est frais, vif et bien structuré, avec des notes de poire et de coing. Bien fondu, gras et long, il sera à son meilleur niveau d’ici un an ou deux.
