The appellation Pessac-Léognan is a complex one, but suffice it to say that it sits within the area of Graves, one of the prestigious Bordeaux regions. It is unique in Bordeaux, because the gravel (Graves) subsoil allows excellent drainage, and consequently ripe grapes, with outcrops of rock that allow sloping vineyards and the chance of even riper grapes. Rochemorin was purchased by André Lurton in 1973, since when he has transformed the whole estate. This classy red is made with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, in a classy vintage, with great colour and complex, ripe fruit.

Les vins Californians sont souvent bien fait, chaleureux comme le Pays, mais désormais assez chèr. Le Dollar faible aujourd’ hui a tout changé, et il faut découvrir cette gamme de bi-cépages, bien respectueuse de ses origines.
